CSA Frequently Asked Questions

  • CSA stands for Community-Supported Agriculture and is a model where members buy shares of a farm's harvest at the beginning of the growing season. This allows the farm to invest in items it needs upfront, which is when the bulk of farm work actually happens! In return, members receive a weekly box of fresh produce throughout the season.

  • There are so many benefits to joining a CSA. Here are some of our personal favorites…

It’s natural. Eating seasonal foods brings us back to how our ancestors ate, which is what our bodies naturally crave.

It’s healthy. Because locally-grown produce spends less time in transit and in storage, it is has higher nutrient contents (psst, this is also why it’s more flavorful). Furthermore, at Tao Farms NY, we never use chemical fertilizers or pesticides, which is what store-bought produce is often laden with.

It supports your local economy. We may be biased here, but wouldn’t you rather give your hard-earned cash to a small farmer than to a giant grocery store? When you put money into your local economy, it stays in your community and makes it a better place to live.

It’s efficient. You don’t need to shop for produce in the grocery store, saving you time, energy, and the headache of “what are we eating?”

It’s fun. Cooking with the items you receive in your weekly CSA box often means trying new recipes and getting creative in the kitchen.

It’s sustainable. The Tao Farms NY CSA is one of the most environmentally-focused around. By signing up, you’re taking a major step towards being more sustainable, as our fields are constantly working to store climate-warming carbon dioxide.

  • We offer a Summer CSA that runs for 20 weeks (May 20 through October 5). There are several options of CSA shares, explained here. A limited number of memberships are available each year.

  • We accept new members at any point during our CSA season until membership slots are full. New members who join part-way through the season will receive a prorated rate based on their start week.

  • Yes, we drop-off CSA shares in insulated boxes to members who enroll in the delivery service. Deliveries are made on Mondays during the CSA season. You can learn about our convenient delivery system here.

If you are interested in getting a CSA share delivered, please indicate it when filling out the CSA form.

  • CSA members picking up their weekly boxes can visit the farm on Mondays between 2:00 - 6:00 pm. If you need to stop by at another time, simply give us a call at 518-241-3706.

The farm is located at 6081 Jockey Street, Galway, NY 12074. There is a sign with our logo out front!

  • Please see our various pricing options here.

  • Sorry, we do not customize. All CSA customers reap the same benefits of the seasonal harvest. If you don’t like something in your box, share it with a friend!

  • If you need to miss a week, you can absolutely send a friend to pick up your CSA box. If you are receiving CSA deliveries, please email us at least one week in advance and we would be happy to either donate your box to a local food pantry or deliver it to a friend of yours living within our delivery area.

  • The green produce bags, quart baskets, and pint baskets are all compostable. If you don’t compost at home, you can bring them back to the farm when you pick up your next share (for delivery members, you can put them in your insulated bag before we pick it up the following week), and we will compost them for you. • There are a few things that make Tao Farms NY unique. For starters, we offer a delivery option that many other CSAs do not. Perhaps most importantly, our farming practices are keenly focused on the health of our soils. That’s because healthy soil means healthy food. By joining this CSA, you are supporting farmers who truly prioritize the environment and, by doing so, grow nutrient-rich, delicious veggies! Learn more about our farming practices here.
